Vented Cylinders
(Gravity-Fed Systems)
Vented cylinders rely on a cold water tank (usually in the loft) to supply hot water. They are simple, reliable, and often easier to maintain.
- Uses a header tank in the loft for feed and expansion
- Operates at low pressure (unless boosted by a pump)
- Simple to install and repair
- Usually lower initial cost, but may take more space and provide lower water pressure
Unvented Cylinders
(Pressurised Systems)
Unvented cylinders connect directly to your mains supply, giving high-pressure hot water throughout your home. They need extra safety devices and must be installed by a trained professional.
- Strong, consistent water pressure at taps and showers
- Requires expansion vessel, pressure relief valves, and safety controls
- No loft tank needed; saves space and reduces risk of freezing or contamination
- Must meet Building Regulations; regular servicing recommended
Choosing the Right System
If you want better water pressure and no loft tank, an unvented system is usually best. Vented systems remain a cost-effective option for some homes. Our engineers will advise based on your property, water supply, and household hot water needs.

Commonly found in lofts, cold water tanks feed vented systems. We provide new installations, replacements, and repairs, including anti-legionella measures.
Materials & Insulation
We use high-quality materials such as stainless steel, copper, and pressed steel. Where appropriate, we add insulation jackets to reduce heat loss and save energy.
